Responsibilities:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Trailer Mechanic to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of trailer equipment and heavy-duty vehicles to ensure optimal safety, performance, and compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess extensive mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience with heavy equipment, and a strong commitment to quality workmanship. This position offers an opportunity to work with diverse machinery, including farm machinery, industrial equipment, and tractor-trailers, supporting our operational efficiency and safety standards.
MUST HAVE YOUR OWN TOOLS
1st Shift: 7:00am-3:00p, with little over time
Duties
Conduct thorough inspections of trailers and heavy-duty vehicles to identify mechanical issues and safety concerns.
Perform repairs on mechanical systems including transmissions, suspensions, brakes, hydraulics, air brake systems, and electrical components.
Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical problems.
Checks, inspects, and reports to supervisor regarding conditions on: Upper 5th plates, landing gear assemblies. Sub-frames Tires, brake systems Ladder, walkways Complete condition of suspension Fender, mud flaps Hydraulic system Logos - decals
Fabricate parts or modify equipment as needed using welding, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication techniques.
Maintain detailed service records of repairs performed and parts used for each vehicle or trailer.
Assist in the alignment, shocks & struts replacement, tire service, and general maintenance tasks to ensure vehicle longevity.
Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and other industrial machinery safely and efficiently during repair processes.
Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of repairs while adhering to safety protocols.
Support preventative maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
Provide exceptional customer service by communicating repair status clearly and professionally.
Skills
Proven experience working as a trailer mechanic or heavy equipment technician in a dealership or industrial environment.
Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, suspensions, hydraulic systems, HVAC systems, and electrical systems.
Proficiency in reading schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic tools for automotive electrical system repair.
Very good math and measuring skills
Hands-on experience with fabrication techniques including welding and soldering.
Familiarity with heavy truck repair procedures for tractor-trailers and farm machinery.
Ability to operate heavy machinery such as excavators, cranes, forklifts safely under various conditions.
Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, alignment equipment, and diagnostic testing devices.
Knowledge of automotive diagnostics software related to heavy equipment maintenance.
Excellent problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail in troubleshooting complex mechanical issues.
Strong customer service orientation with effective communication skills for interacting with clients or team members.
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining high standards of safety compliance.
